Job Description
  • We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead engineering for RC Capital - a zero-to-one team on the ground floor of a brand-new business line - helping design, build, ship, and support the infrastructure behind Early Payouts: underwriting and risk monitoring, money movement and reconciliation, partner bank integrations, and fraud detection.
  • Build and lead a highly engaged distributed team by hiring, supporting, coaching the team to deliver consistently and continuously seek ways to make an impact.
  • Work cross functionally primarily with product, design and support teams to set direction for the team, anticipate strategic and scaling related challenges through thoughtful long term planning.
  • Work with your team on the iterative execution of the roadmap and build efficient and transparent processes for consistent and predictable delivery.
  • Coach and mentor engineers on the team to further their professional development.
  • Work with other engineering managers to continuously improve our organization and create a strong sense of ownership, belonging and inclusivity.
  • In the first month: get up to speed on our current technical projects, meet every contributor on your team, and meet EMs and PMs from other teams.
  • Within the first 3 months: ship your first big feature, deliver quarterly planning with product and design, define milestones and deliverables, and work with recruiting to hire for the company.
  • Within the first 6 months: establish and refine processes to enable shipping fast and reliably, predict team capacity, and champion technical improvements and debt reduction alongside feature development.
  • Within the first 12 months: build domain knowledge to debug, route and prioritize any incoming triage issues, establish clear team communication guidelines, and build trust through mentoring, coaching and timely feedback.
Requirements
  • Background in fintech, financial services, or a related regulated/risk-sensitive domain is essential.
  • You have 6+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • You have 3+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
  • You have experience working cross functionally to build prioritized roadmaps for your teams.
  • You can balance shipping new features, managing tech debt and investing in system improvements.
  • You are hands-on and perform code reviews and bug investigation when needed.
  • You are comfortable writing SQL queries to analyze data and find inconsistencies.
  • You work with your team to ensure that they are consistently producing value and quality software through shorter iterative development cycles.
  • You work with your team to improve the quality of our products, ensuring that they meet product requirements, customer needs, and SLAs.
  • You provide technical leadership to the team and can work with engineers to help guide them into important technical decisions.
  • You have experience working with engineers at different levels and have coached them in their career development.
  • You are customer obsessed, prioritizing their outcomes and experiences.
  • Some overlap with US and European time zone working hours is expected.
